What is Wheel Balancing?
Uneven surfaces, vehicle vibrations, and other disruptions can unbalance your vehicle’s wheel. That leads to an unequal weight distribution, causing increased wear on some tyres and reducing fuel efficiency.
Wheel balancing is a corrective procedure in which the vehicle is placed on a balancer. Small counterweights are added to each wheel to correct any measured imbalances.
This should boost the vehicle’s overall performance.
Factors Affecting Tyre Balance
Several factors cause an uneven weight distribution, including:
- Uneven tyre wear from misalignment or improper inflation.
- Loss of wheel weights due to adhesive failure or impacts.
- Wheel or tyre damage from accidents or curbs.
- Imbalanced mounting due to improper wheel installation.
- Deformities from impacts with potholes or road debris.
- Natural wear and tear affecting wheel integrity.
- Manufacturing defects causing tyre or wheel imbalance.
Additionally, high speeds (> 50-60 mph) will trigger vibrations that inevitably lead to imbalances, as one wheel takes more weight and wear than others.
