Questions we're frequently asked at Hadleigh Tyre Group
When should I replace my tyres, and what is the legal tread limit?
The legal minimum tread depth in the UK is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre, around its whole circumference. It is sensible to replace tyres before they reach that point rather than run them to the limit, as wet grip and braking drop off well before 1.6mm.
Signs it is time to look at new tyres:
- Tread getting close to the wear bars set into the grooves
- Longer stopping distances in the wet
- Cracking or bulges in the sidewall
- Uneven wear across the tread
